We also now offer sclerotherapy utilizing a brand new imaging device called the "VeinViewer", the VeinViewer enables us to visualize veins precisely and project them directly onto your skin. This means we can treat your spider and varicose veins with less needle sticks and fewer sessions. (video clip)
What are Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are damaged enlarged blood vessels that no longer carry blood back to the heart efficiently. They are more than a cosmetic problem. They cause aches, swelling in the legs and increase the risk for blood clots and leg ulcers. They are easily treated by EVLT and foam sclerotherapy.
What causes Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are either primary in which they are due to weakness of the vein walls or vein valves, or secondary in which a normal veins gets enlarged due to increased pressure from the deep venous system.
Prolonged standing, sitting, heredity, pregnancy, obesity and prior injury are some of the major risk factors.
What are spider veins?
Also known as telangiectasia, these are unsightly smaller vessels. They serve no function but can be very disturbing to the patient who has them.
What are reticular veins?
These are small veins just under the skin that often feed and cause the spider veins. It is crucial to identify these when treating spider veins. The VeinViewer is perfect for identifying these and assisting in treatment with foam sclerotherapy.
Why do I need an ultrasound?
Color Ultrasound is a non invasive method to map out and identify the problem with your veins. The deep veins are evaluated to make sure there are no blood clots. The perforating veins which join the deep and superficial veins are evaluated to check their function. Having the proper diagnosis not only gives you the best treatment for your varicose veins, it also assists in getting EVLT covered by insurance.
What is foam sclerotherapy?
Foam sclerotherapy is a treatment in which polidocanol solution is made into a dilute foam which is then injected using a very tiny needle into the spider, reticular or varicose vein. This is done with the VeinViewer for smaller vessels and ultrasound for the deeper ones. The foam solution causes the faulty blood vessel to seal off and disappear.
Is treatment covered by insurance?
While we can not guarantee coverage in every case, EVLT is often covered by insurance and our office will work with you. Digital photos taken during your visit and your history , physical and ultrasound are helpful in this regard. Spider veins are considered cosmetic.
Is financing available?
Yes. We have made arrangements with Unicorn Financial, to help so that no patient will be denied treatment. Various payment plans are available through Unicorn Financial.
